DR. JOSÉ JUAN BARAJAS DE PRAT










El Dr. J. J. Barajas, médico otorrinolaringólogo, nace en Santa Cruz de Tenerife, en las Islas Canarias, España. Obtiene la licenciatura en Medicina y Cirugía en la Universidad de Navarra.
a continuación se traslada al Reino Unido donde continúa su formación, obteniendo el diploma en Laringología y Otología por el Real Colegio de Cirujanos de Londres. Durante este período desarrolla su actividad laboral en distintos centros sanitarios del Reino Unido. Posteriormente a esta actividad obtiene la especialidad en otorrinolaringología por la Universidad de Madrid y el título de doctor en medicina por la Universidad de Granada. A lo largo de su vida académica es becado por distintas instituciones, como la fundación de Otología de los Ángeles (EEUU) o el Hospital Universitario de Odense (Dinamarca). Así mismo se le otorga la prestigiosa beca Alexander von Humboldt, la cual cursa en el Departamento de Neurología de la Universidad de Ulm, en Alemania. El reconocimiento internacional del Dr. Barajas queda constatado al forma parte de los principales comités ejecutivos de las asociaciones relacionadas con su especialidad, ocupando el cargo de presidente de la International Societies of Audiology y de la Association of Physicians in Audiology. Así mismo, muestra de este reconocimiento es él haber sido nombrado presidente y organizador del IV Congreso Internacional de Medicina Audiológica, el XX Congreso Internacional de Audiología, el Work Shop on Otoacustic Emsions y el IX European Federation of Audiological Societies congreso celebrado en el Puerto de la Cruz durante el año 2009.
El Dr. Barajas ha fundamentado este reconocimiento internacional en un trabajo de investigación de más de 30 años en los que ha contribuido con publicaciones en las revistas de más prestigio dentro de la especialidad destacando en especial por sus aportaciones en el área de la electrofisiología del sistema nervioso central auditivo.
En su faceta como docente, el Dr. Barajas abre las puertas de su centro a estudiantes procedentes de distintos países de América del Sur y de nuestro país a través de la Fundación Canaria Dr. Barajas para la Prevención e Investigación de la Sordera, de la cual es presidente.
A través de este cauce, en los últimos años, becarios de Brasil, Colombia, Argentina y Ecuador han tenido la oportunidad de acudir como pasantes a la Clínica Barajas complementando su formación como otorrinolaringólogos, audiólogos o logopedas. Por otro lado, el Dr. Bajas es profesor de psicobiología en la Facultad de Psicología, de la Universidad de la Laguna. El Dr. Barajas sigue pasando consulta como médico otorrinolaringólogo en la Clínica Barajas de Santa Cruz de Tenerife.

Dra. Gabbard, Ph.D.








Dra. Sandra Gabbard is the Co-Director of the Marion Downs Hearing Center and the Director of Audiology at the University of Colorado Hospital. She is also an Associate Professor in the Department of Otolaryngology and JFK Partners at the University of Colorado School of Medicine and adjunct faculty in the Speech, Language and Hearing Sciences Department at the University of Colorado in Boulder. She has been providing a wide range of clinical audiologic services at The University of Colorado Hospital for over 25 years with a primarily pediatric focus. She has published and presented extensively in the areas of newborn hearing screening, assessment procedures, and fitting and verification of hearing aids and FM systems. She is the PI of a Pediatric Audiology LEND MCHB training grant which supports AuD students and post-doctoral audiologists to expand their expertise in pediatric audiology. She is a member of the Colorado Infant Hearing Advisory Board, the Coordinator of the Colorado Pediatric Assessment and Amplification Task Force, and is the President of the Colorado Academy of Audiology.
